Online dating can be a fun and exciting experience. It is a great way to meet new people for friendship, dating or to just share similar interests. As with anything, caution needs to be used to assure that you are safe.
One online dating safety tip that is recommended is to use common sense. If you happen to meet someone that you feel espcially drawn to, remain wary of giving out any personal information that could put you in jeapordy. Keep in mind that because it is an online site the person may or may not be who they say they are.
Another of the online dating tips is to never give your personal information out such as your surname, your address or even your telephone number. With todays technology, telephone numbers can be traced to your home address. Never state where you work or the name of the company you are employed by.
Also recommended for online dating tips concerning your first contact is that if you decide to meet with someone that you have met online, always make sure you do so in a very public place. It is best to remain doing this for some time. Never invite the person back to your home or accept an invitation to thiers.
If you would like to exchange phone numbers make sure you give out only your cell number. A cell phone is safer especially if it does not display your number or comes up on the screen as unknown caller or private caller. It is always best not to give out your home phone number until you feel that you know the person quite well.
When visiting an online dating source try to use the safest ones available. Most will have you fill out an application of sorts. This will include general information such as your profile, your hobbies and interests and you age group. Although this is not a sure way to protect your safety, it may help weed out those that are visiting the site for other reasons.
